Actress in a Leading Role

At the time of writing these predictions, a couple of films have been pushed back to 2024 due the the WGA-SAG strikes. These include the “Zendaya” starring Challengers, and as a result, she will not be making an appearance on this list. I also would not be surprised if some other films due to be released later in the year suffer the same fate.

This could see my predictions change heavily over the months if this is the case, with only a handful of the performances below coming in films that have already been released in 2023. These include the critically acclaimed performance by Greta Lee in Celine Song’s A24 romantic drama Past Lives, and “Margot Robbie’s” energetic performance in the box-office hit of the summer, Barbie. Two of the most lauded performances of the year so far have been “Natalie Portman” in May December and “Sandra Huller” in Anatomy of a Fall. Both actresses received rave reviews when their respective films premiered at Cannes, with Huller walking away with the festival’s Best Actress award.

Other actresses with films due out later in the year include previous winners: “Emma Stone”, and “Jessica Lange”, who will be waiting to see if they will be competing in 2024 or 2025, depending on any pushbacks as a result of the strikes.

Here are my predictions as of 27th July 2023:
