Unlike director, the lead acting nominations are much easier to predict, with four, if not all five slots being all but certain by this point. This is one of the few categories where my top five has not changed since my previous predictions back in September, with Timothee Chalamet keeping his place amongst the potential nominees following the premiere of “A Complete Unknown” last month.
The only actor that may be in any jeopardy is potentially Daniel Craig, as his film “Queer” is not likely to appear in any other category. This may see him lose out to Jesse Eisenberg, whose “A Real Pain” may very easily show up in picture, screenplay and supporting actor. Outside of the top six, there is only really Sebastian Stan who may show up on nomination morning but the actor may be splitting votes with himself having been considered for two films, “The Apprentice” and “A Different Man”.
