We are approaching the end of another enjoyable year in film. To look forward to the new year, I have listed the ten films that I am most excited for, coming in 2025. I compiled a similar list last year, and funnily enough, one film, Bong Joon-ho‘s “Mickey 17” returns having been pushed back as a result of the SAG-AFTRA strikes last year.
There are always some surprises and disappointments throughout the year, so I do not expect the ten films listed below to be my favourite movies of the year, but at this early stage they have definitely peaked my interest the most.

10. Wicked: For Good

Synopsis: After challenging the Wizard’s totalitarian regime in Oz, Elphaba must grapple with her identity as the “Wicked Witch of the West”. Meanwhile, the Wizard has given Glinda the title “Glinda the Good” and a public status as the nation’s defender against Elphaba.
9. Bugonia

Synopsis: Two conspiracy-obsessed young men kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth.

Dir: Jospeh Kosinski
Cast: Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Javier Bardem, Sarah Niles
Synopsis: Sonny Hayes, a Formula One driver who raced in the 1990s, has a horrible crash, forcing him to retire from Formula One and start racing in other disciplines. A Formula One team owner and friend contacts Hayes and asks him to come out of retirement to mentor rookie prodigy Joshua Pearce for the Apex Grand Prix team (APXGP).
7. Frankenstein
Dir: Guillermo Del Toro

Synopsis: Victor Frankenstein strives to restore life to the dead and succeeds in creating a horrific creature.
6. Warfare

5. The Running Man

4. Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery

3. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning

Synopsis: The final instalment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, following Ethan Hunt and his IMF team as they attempt to shut down the Artificial Intelligence capable of taking over the world.

Synopsis: Wanting to get out of Earth, Mickey Barnes signs up to be an “expendable”: a disposable employee where after one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of their memories intact. After one of his “multiples”, Mickey 17, unintentionally survives a human expedition to colonize the ice world Niflheim, he goes head-to-head with a new multiple, Mickey 18.

Synopsis: It’s been almost three decades since the Rage Virus escaped a medical research laboratory, and in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, they discover secrets, wonders, and horrors of the outside world.
