BAFTA Nominations Announced

Conclave leads with 12 nominations

Not long after the longlists were announced, BAFTA have now released the final nominations for the upcoming 78th British Academy Film Awards, due to take place in February. Going into nominations this morning, “Emilia Perez” and “Conclave” were expected to lead the pack with 15 and 14 longlist mentions respectively. While the film remain top of the pile, it is “Conclave” that comes out on top with 12 final nominations, edging out “Emilia Perez” which has racked up a still impressive 11.

Following suit are other award season players; “The Brutalist” (9), “Anora” (7), “Dune: Part Two” (7), “Wicked” (7) and “A Complete Unknown” (6). Ultimately it was the two juggernaut blockbusters that missed out on a Best Film nomination. This award season has been very unpredictable throughout, and while the key players largely remain the same, it still remains hard to predict as to which film will be walking away with Oscar gold in March.

Another film that performed well at todays nominations, as expected, was “Kneecap”, with the biopic surrounding the titular, Northern Irish rap trio, landing an impressive 6 nominations, one more than “The Substance” and “Nosferatu”.

The 78th BAFTAs will be televised on Sunday 16th February.
