Now that we are half way through the year, and with a handful of major festivals; including Cannes and Sundance, behind us, I thought it would be a good time to discuss the upcoming Academy Awards in March 2024. There are still many films to be released between now and the submission date later in the year, so these predictions are very premature and will most likely change when I revisit them on a monthly basis.
I will be making predictions for strong contenders, and possible outsiders to look out for in all categories, and will be updating my predictions monthly. Several strong contenders such as: The Holdovers, Saltburn, Dune: Part Two, The Colour Purple and Maestro are yet to be released or to have their review embargo lifted so expect a lot of changes over the next 8 months. The recent SAG strike may also see some of the later releases pushed back to next year, so some films such as The Piano Lesson may not qualify in time for 2024.
