Golden Globe Predictions 2024 – Animated Film

Awards Season is well and truly underway and the nominees for the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards are to be announced on Monday 11th December. The Golden Globes are one of the major precursors when determining which films will be big players at the upcoming Academy Awards. Other precursors to come in the next few months include: The BAFTA, SAG, Critic’s Choice, DGA and PGA awards.

The Animation Feature category is usually one of the most consistent categories throughout awards season due to lack of contenders. There are only usually a couple of films in contention to win with a handful of others with a chance of a nomination, this means that usually three or four films appear at all critics groups and awards precursors with the final slot or so rotating a couple of the outsiders. “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” is this years clear frontrunner and Hayao Miyazaki’s “The Boy and the Heron” is an absolute lock. A handful of other films are not guaranteed but expect to see Disney’s “Elemental” at the expense of their other film “Wish” and possibly the latest adaptation of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”.

A major change from the HFPA this year is the increase from five to six nominees per category.

Below is my current and possibly final predictions for Golden Globe nominees in Animated Film:
