Golden Globe Predictions 2024 – Original Song

Awards Season is well and truly underway and the nominees for the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards are to be announced on Monday 11th December. The Golden Globes are one of the major precursors when determining which films will be big players at the upcoming Academy Awards. Other precursors to come in the next few months include: The BAFTA, SAG, Critic’s Choice, DGA and PGA awards.

Another category which is tough to predict is Original Song. At the Academy Awards, a film can only submit one song which is then placed in a fifteen song shortlist, making it much more straight forward to predict. With the Globes, however, any given film could have multiple nominations, and with a film like “Barbie” out this year, with a completely original soundtrack, I expect it will land at least two nominations and will most likely will the award.

One to keep an eye out for though is Diane Warren. The songwriter has an unbelievable knack for getting nominated every year, even if the film or song itself are instantly forgettable.

A major change from the HFPA this year is the increase from five to six nominees per category.

Below is my current and possibly final predictions for Golden Globe nominees in Original Song:
