Only a couple of days before the Golden Globe Awards, kickstarting the televised award season precursors, BAFTA have revealed their longlists for all categories at the upcoming 77th British Academy Film Awards.
Major award season contenders “Barbie”, “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Oppenheimer”, lead the pack with 15 nominations each, equalling last years record set by “All Quiet on the Western Front”. They are closely followed by Yorgos Lanthimos‘ “Poor Things” and Bradley Cooper‘s Leonard Bernstein biopic “Maestro”, each 14 with and 12 longlist nominations respectively.
As usual with BAFTA, there was strong showings from British films with “Wonka”, “Rye Lane”, “How to Have Sex”, “Scrapper” and “All of Us Strangers” racking up a decent number of longlist placements, the latter of which securing a Best Film nomination, as well as four acting nominations.
There were a handful of surprise exclusions from the lists, with Cailee Spaeny and Natalie Portman missing from Lead Actress and Charles Melton proving to be the biggest snub in Supporting Actor.
The final BAFTA nominations will be announced on Thursday 18th January, with ceremony, hosted by David Tennant taking place Sunday 18th February.
