Supporting Actress Predictions: June 2024

Much like Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress is notoriously difficult to predict at this early stage due to the unknown cases of potential category down the line, not to mention that there is still over half a year of cinematic releases to premiere.

Two performances already up for debate are Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldana in “Emilia Perez”, which were seen at Cannes back in May. Both stars were jointly awarded Best Actress of the festival alongside Karla Sofia Gascon as part of the ensemble. I currently have Gascon down as the lead but I would not be surprised to see Saldana take this spot from her being the more household name.

Other strong contenders yet to be seen include Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Danielle Deadwyler, Isabella Rossellini in what is a busy year for her, Lesley Manville and Natasha Lyonne for her already acclaimed role in Azazel Jacob’s “His Three Daughters”.

  1. Great predictions for best supporting actress. This is definitely the toughest category for me to predict since I am unfamiliar with the actresses. It will probably be a long shot, but I would love to see Rebecca Ferguson get recognized for her work in “Dune: Part Two”. Ferguson is a fantastic actress that has been giving strong performances for many years in popular blockbusters. She was excellent in the role of Paul Atredies’ strong mother in “Dune: Part Two”. While she wasn’t the main star, she fulfilled the role of a supporting performer by elevating every scene she was in. I don’t think she will get into the main lineup due to tense competition, but I would be thrilled if she somehow does.

Here’s why I loved Ferguson’s performance in “Dune: Part Two”:
