DGA Awards 2025

With all five filmmakers being first time nominees, this year’s DGA award was always going to be the debut win for one of the talented directors in this year’s line-up. As one of the major guilds, along with PGA and SAG, the outcome of the DGA can be heavily influential come Oscar night.

Despite leading the pack for most of the award season, “The Brutalist” director Brady Corbet seems to have lost his momentum, having lost the top directing prize at the Critics Choice Awards last week. Corbet’s luck did not improve here neither with Sean Baker walking away with the top prize for his critically acclaimed comedy-drama “Anora”.

On top of the film’s PGA win that was also announced on Saturday, “Anora” now surges to the top of the contender list, establishing itself as the frontrunner as the season enters its final weeks. While BAFTA and SAG are still yet to announce their winners, it has proven to be a remarkable week for “Anora”, which also saw it win the top prize at the Critics Choice Awards, despite winning no other awards.
