The Supporting Actor category is proving to be incredibly difficult to predict this year, with no actor in particular standing out amongst the pack as of yet. With so few performances seen so far this year, the only performance I could consider to have a fighting chance for a nomination at this stage is Stellan Skarsgard‘s in “Sentimental Value”. With me predicting the Norwegian comedy-drama in a number of major categories, it makes sense for me to look at the prolific Nordic actor as a potential nominee here.
The only candidates that have had their performances seen so far in 2025 include; Mark Hamill in the 2024 TIFF winner, “The Life of Chuck”, Robert Pattinson in “Die My Love”, and both Delroy Lindo and newcomer Miles Caton in the incredibly successful “Sinners”. However, I am struggling to see how any of these performances could break into the eventual five nominations next year, which leaves me guessing as to which unseen supporting performances have a chance of gaining momentum later in the year. The likes of Adam Sandler, Jonathan Bailey and Stephen Graham will be looking for their first Oscar nominations, while previous nominees Andrew Garfield, Jeremy Strong, Colman Domingo and Paul Mescal will be hoping for their first ever win.
