Similar to June, new releases are pretty scarce in July, but also like this month there are a handful of major releases coming to the big screen as the summer blockbusters continue to come thick and fast. Potentially three of the biggest films of the year are coming out in July, as major franchises either continue or get the reboot treatment, starting with Gareth Edwards‘ “Jurassic World: Rebirth” on the 2nd July, the seventh instalment in the dinosaur-adventure franchise.
“Jurassic World” will likely dominate the global box office for a couple weeks until the comic book movies start to make their way into cinemas, starting with James Gunn‘s attempt at bringing “Superman” back to the big screen. This DC release is swiftly followed one week later by the latest entry in the MCU, as yet another failed IP gets a rebrand with The Fantastic Four looking to integrate themselves into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”.
In a month abundant in sequels and reboots, other properties returning to cinemas next month include “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and “Smurfs”, as well as Netflix original sequels “The Old Guard 2” and the long awaited “Happy Gilmore 2”.
The month is rounded out with A24’s cringeworthy dark comedy, “Friendship” and body horrors “The Shrouds” and “Together”, the latter being my most anticipated release of the entire month.
