98th Academy Awards: Final Lead Actor Predictions

Following the Actor Awards nominations last week, we have gotten a clearer picture as to which actors are expected to make the line-up of five come Oscar nomination morning next week. Those destined for a nomination, having been amongst the nominees, as well being ever present at the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice and on the BAFTA longlists, include Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael B. Jordan, Ethan Hawke and Timothee Chalamet, the latter looking increasingly likely to win his first Academy Award.

Wagner Moura won the Golden Globe for Actor – Drama for “The Secret Agent”

Also looking like a dead set for a nomination is Wagner Moura, with the Brazilian having won Best Actor – Drama at the Golden Globes last week, plus his film, “The Secret Agent”, is currently on the rise. He has though missed nominations at both the Actor’s Awards and at BAFTA, which could possible open the door for either Jesse Plemons or Joel Edgerton. Both stars appeared on the Lead Actor longlist at BAFTA, with Plemons also receiving Golden Globe and Actor Award nominations, with Edgerton being amongst the Critics’ Choice line-up.

Looking less likely at this stage despite being in the running earlier in the season are the likes of George Clooney, Dwayne Johnson and Lee Byung-hun, all of whom missed at BAFTA, Critics’ Choice and the Actor Awards.

Final Lead Actor predictions:

  1. Timothee Chalamet “Marty Supreme”
  2. Leonardo DiCaprio “One Battle After Another”

  2. Joel Edgerton “Train Dreams”
