One category that is looking more certain than the others is Supporting Actor, with four potential nominees having not missed at any of the precursors so far. Jacob Elordi, who won at the Critics’ Choice, Paul Mescal, and both Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro from “One Battle After Another” have been everywhere all award season, so highly doubtful that they will miss coming nomination morning this Thursday.
The other almost guaranteed nomination is veteran actor Stellan Skarsgard, who remarkably is hoping for his first ever Oscar nomination. The Swedish actor has consistently delivered for several decades now, both in and out of Hollywood productions, and despite missing out on an Actor’s Award nomination, as did all international actors, he may be one of the favourites to win the award having won the Golden Globe last week.

Outsiders who are unlikely to break into the five on Thursday include Adam Sandler, also searching for his first Oscar nomination, as well as “Sinners” stars Delroy Lindo and Miles Caton, all three of which are possible but improbable.
Final Supporting Actor predictions:
Strong Contenders
- Stellan Skarsgard “Sentimental Value”
- Benicio del Toro “One Battle After Another”
- Sean Penn “One Battle After Another”
- Jacob Elordi “Frankenstein”
- Paul Mescal “Hamnet”
Possible Contenders
- Adam Sandler “Jay Kelly”
- Delroy Lindo “Sinners”
- Miles Caton “Sinners”
- Andrew Scott “Blue Moon”
- Jeremy Strong “Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere”
Nominations for the 98th Academy Awards are announced Thursday 22nd January

Excellent predictions for best supporting actor. This is definitely an interesting category with many of the nominees being deserving of recognition. Although it’s too early to tell, I would love to see Stellan Skarsgard win this. I was deeply moved by his performance as a troubled father in “Sentimental Value”. He is an overlooked Swedish actor that has never gotten the recognition he deserves. I feel it would be a worthy win for the film as well. It’s one of my favourite films of the year, and I would love to see it win something. I think this is its best chance at a win.
Here’s my thoughts on “Sentimental Value”:
