As for Original and Adapted Screenplay nominations, it is always safe to predict those films that I am expecting to get into the Best Picture line-up, or at least in and around it. Therefore, films like “Sentimental Value”, “Sinners”, and “Marty Supreme”, I have in for Original Screenplay with all three looking likely to be set for a Best Picture nomination.
There are potentially four films battling it out for the final two slots, three of which could possibly land Best Picture nominations so I expect whatever two get into Original Screenplay will go onto get nominated in the main category as well. These three films are international picks “It Was Just an Accident” and “The Secret Agent”, and “Weapons”, and to be honest it could go either way but to not set myself up for disappointment I am predicting that Zach Cregger‘s horror will miss out. Outside bets are Eva Victor for “Sorry, Baby” and Robert Kaplow for “Blue Moon”, but seeing as they are not near the Best Picture ten it is looking less likely.
Final Original Screenplay predictions:
Strong Contenders
- “Sinners” (Ryan Coogler)
- “Sentimental Value” (Joachim Trier, Eskil Vogt)
- “Marty Supreme” (Ronald Bronstein, Josh Safdie)
- “It Was Just an Accident” (Jafar Panahi)
- “The Secret Agent” (Kleber Mendonca Filho)
Possible Contenders
- “Weapons” (Zach Cregger)
- “Sorry, Baby” (Eva Victor)
- “Blue Moon” (Robert Kaplow)
- “Jay Kelly” (Emily Mortimer, Noah Baumbach)
- “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You” (Mary Bronstein)
