Awards Season is well and truly underway and the nominees for the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards are to be announced on Monday 11th December. The Golden Globes are one of the major precursors when determining which films will be big players at the upcoming Academy Awards. Other precursors to come in the next few months include: The BAFTA, SAG, Critic’s Choice, DGA and PGA awards.
The Golden Globes are ran by the Hollywood Foreign Press and they split the film categories into two: Drama and Musical/Comedy. This does allow for more actors and films to get nominations at the Golden Globes but there are also instances of egregious category fraud. For example in 2015 when Ridley Scott‘s The Martian campaigned in Comedy/Musical. Something that has repeated this year with Todd Haynes‘ drama, May December, which has also campaigned in Comedy/Musical.
A major change from the HFPA this year is the increase from five to six nominees per category.
Below is my current and possibly final predictions for Golden Globe nominees in Best Film – Drama:
Predicted Six
- Oppenheimer
- Killers of the Flower Moon
- Maestro
- Past Lives
- Anatomy of a Fall
- The Zone of Interest
Possible Contenders
- All of Us Strangers
- Rustin
- Saltburn
- Origin
- Priscilla
Outsiders
- Rustin
- The Iron Claw
- Ferrari
- Nyad
- The Boys in the Boat

Logic list 👏

I think most the 10 likely Oscar Best Picture nominees will be split 5 and 5 over both categories which rarely happens
