81st Annual Golden Globe Nominations

Awards season is well and truly under way as the nominations for the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards have been announced. The Golden Globes are the first of the major awards bodies to announce their nominations during this awards season that will culminate with the Academy Awards on 10th March 2024. The Globes are often seen as a precursor for the Academy Awards, alongside the likes of: BAFTA, SAG, PGA, DGA and Critic’s Choice. So these nominations will give us a clearer indication as to what to expect come the Oscars in three months time.

The film that has manged to rack up the most nominations is Barbie with a whopping nine nominations, including: Best Film – Comedy/Musical, Actress, Supporting Actor, Screenplay, Director and three song nominations. This is then followed by: Oppenheimer with eight nominations; Poor Things and Killers of the Flower Moon both with seven, . It has been a surprisingly strong showing for Past Lives, which managed to rack up five nominations, where as The Colour Purple under performed with only two nominations, missing out on Film – Comedy/Musical to Air.

The surprise inclusions include Alma Poysti and Rosamund Pike, who both recieved acting nominations for their work on Fallen Leaves and Saltburn respectively.
