Only two days after the Golden Globe nominations were announced, we now have the Critics’ Choice Award nominations. Award season is well and truly underway with two of the major precursors announcing their nominations this week and we are already getting an early indication as to who the major players are this season.
The Critics’ Choice give paint a much clearer picture of how many nominations we can expect for a film at the Academy Awards, as they celebrate the below the line categories, including: Production Design, Editing, Cinematography etc. categories which are not awarded at the Golden Globes.,
Following on from its nine nominations at the Globes on Monday, Barbie has racked up a record breaking 18 nominations here. Oppenheimer and Poor Things follow with 13 nominations each and other strong contender Killers of the Flower Moon garnered 12 nominations.
The films that underperformed were the international films, with Anatomy of a Fall and The Zone of Interest missing out on Director, Picture and Screenplay nominations after strong showings at the Globes on Monday.
There are no real surprised here with a few outside contenders sneaking in like Sterling K. Brown for American Fiction and Saltburn for Picture but change ups like this will become expected as the season progresses.
The Critics’ Choice Awards are scheduled to take place on Sunday 14th January. See full list on nominations below:
