Now that the Golden Globe Awards have taken place and both BAFTA and AMPAS have released their longlists and shortlists respectively, award season is starting to gain traction. One of the largest voting bodies of the Academy Awards is the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), which comprises of over 160,000 actors, presenters and journalists across the industry.
Having such an influence over the eventual Academy Award nominations, it is crucial that all Academy hopefuls turn up at SAG or they may be at risk of missing out come the Oscar nominations.
As has been the story so far throughout award season “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” lead the chasing pack with four nominations each, followed by “American Fiction” and“Killers of the Flower Moon”, all with three nominations.
Surprise omissions include Mark Ruffalo for his hilarious performance in “Poor Things” and Leonardo DiCaprio for “Killers of the Flower Moon”. American Fiction over performed with a relatively surprising nomination for Sterling K Brown, and an all important nomination for Ensemble.
