June Movie Roundup

After a busy month I have not quite managed to get round to watching everything I would have hoped, but still managed to get a handful of first time watches as well as plenty of rewatches. Let me know what you got to watch in June and what was the best movie you saw this month, whether it be a rewatch or a new release.

First time watches in June:

Inside Out 2 (2024)

Animation, Family

Dir: Kelsey Mann

Equally matching the visual ingenuity of the first film, this smart and funny Pixar sequel is the studio’s best project in years despite not quite landing the same emotional punch as its predecessor.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

A Quiet Place: Day One (2024)

Horror, Sci-Fi

Dir: Michael Sarnoski

While it may not recapture the originality or heart of the first film, this side project still delivers the thrills and surprising emotional beats synonymous with the horror series.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

The Bikeriders (2024)

Drama, Crime

Dir: Jeff Nichols

Jeff Nichol’s gritty real life motorcycle drama suffers from poor pacing but remains relatively impactful thanks to the performances of its charismatic ensemble

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

The First Omen (2024)

Horror, Supernatural

Dir: Arkasha Stevenson

Despite being restricted to the confines of the decades old franchise, this satanic origin story delivers some fresh and occasional frightening scares

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Stopmotion (2024)

Horror/Animation

Dir: Robert Morgan

Viral stopmotion creator Robert Morgan’s debut feature is a deeply disturbing but occasionally tedious psychological horror that will haunt your dreams for days to come

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Sting (2024)

Horror, Thriller

Kiah Roache-Turner

It may not be the most ground-breaking horror flick but this arachnid creature feature is a mildly entertaining B-movie throwback

Rating: 3 out of 5.

  1. Great posts as always. I didn’t get a chance to see many movies in June, but I enjoyed the ones that I did catch in the theater. Out of all the movies that I watched, “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” stood out the most. I’ve never been a huge fan of Mad Max, so I was a little apprehensive going into this movie. I noticed you gave “Mad Max: Fury Road” 5/5 stars. I may be in the minority, but I really didn’t care much for that film. I appreciated the action sequences but found issues with the storytelling. In this regard, I found “Furiosa” to be a better movie. I was blown away by the action but at the same time found myself caring for Furiosa and her journey of vengeance. I thought it was such a fantastic film, and it’s a shame it didn’t do well at the box office.

Here’s my thoughts on “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga”:
