What a week it has been for Sean Baker and “Anora”. Despite not winning any awards at the Golden Globes last month, the comedy-drama has consistently gotten nominations in expected categories throughout this entire award season. This consistency has finally paid off, with the film receiving a huge boost to its Oscar chances with a PGA win on Saturday. This Producers Guild win, alongside the recent DGA and Critics Choice wins this past week, has seen Baker’s film become the frontrunner with less than a month to go until Oscar night. With SAG and BAFTA yet to announce their winners, anything can happen, but with the “Emilia Perez” campaign falling in the toilet, and with “The Brutalist” running out of steam, maybe the year’s first serious contender, following its Palme d’Or win in the summer, turns out to be the obvious winner after all.
It is not quite set in stone though, as there have been numerous occasions in recent years where films that have won both DGA and PGA have fallen short at the Academy Awards. Those who have managed to win at the two guilds but miss out on the Best Picture Oscar include; “Apollo 13”, “Saving Private Ryan”, “Brokeback Mountain”, “La La Land” and “1917”.
It will become a lot clearer following the BAFTA and SAG ceremonies, which take place this coming Sunday and next Sunday respectively.

“Anora” is my #1 film of the year and it’s great to see it rising above the others it seems, as far as the Oscars are concerned…and since the final ballots opened today for a week, we will see if the shocking “Emilia Perez” revelations will keep it from winning a single prize…

I think Saldana has a chance, and maybe in song, I think even in International Film I’m Still Here may pip it

Yes Zoe seems the best chance…some think the conflict may cause the two songs to cancel each other out…my neighbor is very close friends with Diane Warren, and made her lemonade from lemons I gave her form my tree – so we really want Daine to finally get her due!

Diane Warren will win one day, but surely it will be one song that is more well known, or at least for a film that is a bigger award player in general. I think El Mal will still take it as it is a very weak category
