BAFTA Winners

The “Oppenheimer” train appears unstoppable at this stage, with the 3-hour biopic continues to sweep the major prizes throughout award season. Christopher Nolan‘s epic walked home with 7 awards on the night including Picture, Director and Acting awards for Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. further cemented itself as the one to beat at the Academy Awards next month.

Also performing well on the night were: “Poor Things”, with 5 awards including Lead Actress for Emma Stone; “The Zone of Interest” which picked up 3 awards; and “The Holdovers” which picked up awards for casting and Supporting Actress for Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who like Oppenheimer has swept award season so far.

A couple of surprises include “American Fiction” claiming Adapted Screenplay despite it being the film’s sole nomination, putting it in serious contention for the Oscar. There was also a surprise in Animated Feature where “The Boy and the Heron” pipped “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” to the award, repeating the Golden Globes in January.
