The “Oppenheimer” train appears unstoppable at this stage, with the 3-hour biopic continues to sweep the major prizes throughout award season. Christopher Nolan‘s epic walked home with 7 awards on the night including Picture, Director and Acting awards for Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. further cemented itself as the one to beat at the Academy Awards next month.
Also performing well on the night were: “Poor Things”, with 5 awards including Lead Actress for Emma Stone; “The Zone of Interest” which picked up 3 awards; and “The Holdovers” which picked up awards for casting and Supporting Actress for Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who like Oppenheimer has swept award season so far.
A couple of surprises include “American Fiction” claiming Adapted Screenplay despite it being the film’s sole nomination, putting it in serious contention for the Oscar. There was also a surprise in Animated Feature where “The Boy and the Heron” pipped “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” to the award, repeating the Golden Globes in January.

Had a feeling Oppenheimer would dominate this years BAFTA’s, great to see Poor Things get a look in as well tho.

I’m getting annoyed that Poor Things and Oppenheimer are getting so many awards. Is there a reason Past Lives had no BAFTA nominations? I think I agree with this guy about Poor Things: https://medium.com/@robert.k.starr/poor-things-and-buffy-feminism-6a38e5048bb7

I did like Oppenheimer and Poor Things but because they are so strong in technical categories they have more nominations than Past Lives so more guilds will go for them

Not surprised in the slightest by these winners. However, I’m getting tired of “Oppenheimer” sweeping every award ceremony. Don’t get me wrong it’s an amazing movie. But it has buried small films with great power like “Past Lives” getting no recognition.

On the positive side, I am glad that “All Of Us Strangers” got some recognition. A masterpiece. Shocked it got no Oscar recognition. Here’s why I loved it:
