The summer months have seen an astonishing turn around at local cinemas, with June, July and August seeing Box Office numbers skyrocket from the depths that put the industry in dire straits earlier in the year. While there have been some major bombs of late, such as the recent remake of “The Crow” and the movie adaptation of the video game series “Borderlands”, on the whole the August releases faired pretty well at the box office. Whilst “Deadpool & Wolverine” continued to dominate, becoming the second highest grossing film of the year so far, other major releases “Alien: Romulus”, “It Ends With Us” and “Trap” also made relatively sizeable splashes at the box office.
As we enter a new season , the amount of blockbusters coming our way is on the decline but as we start to shape up for award season later in the year, we will start to get a nice mix of award-contending features and belatedly released summer Hollywood productions.
The biggest new release of the month is undoubtedly “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”, which will see Michael Keaton‘s “ghost with the most” return to the big screen after a 36 year absence. Other suitable releases as we start our countdown to spooky season include: Coralie Fargeat‘s body horror “The Substance”, which blew audiences away at Cannes in May; American remake of cult Danish horror “Speak No Evil”; Halle Berry creature-feature “Never Let Go”; and the latest adaptation of “Hellboy” comic book series, “Hellboy: The Crooked Man”.
Festival hopefuls “The Outrun”, “Megalopolis” and “His Three Daughters” also get cinematic releases in September, the latter of which also comes to Netflix on the 20th after a limited theatrical run. Other releases next month include: “Rebel Ridge” (Netflix), “The Critic” and “Wolfs”.

Promising reviews on “B2” – and I think I will see “Megalopolis” in a theater to support an Artist who is trying to make CINEMA…reviews suggest either a misunderstood masterpiece or a folly of the greatest kind – which sounds like a great way to spend an afternoon!

I will also try and catch Megalopolis to see for myself how it plays out but it could go either way I reckon

Indeed…I just watched the Director’s Cut of “Apocalypse Now”…verymixed emotions…three major added scenes and one was a big snooze at exactly the wrong time in the film and the other two were somewhat demeaning to women….

Great list of movies to see in September. All of these titles sound promising to me but “Wolfs” stands out the most. Being a huge fan of both Brad Pitt and George Clooney, I’m curious to see how this film would turn out to be. It marks a reunion for the actors after several years. I loved their first collaboration on “Ocean’s 11”. A captivating heist classic, that movie is one of my favourite films of all time. I’m curious to see how this latest film would turn out. Even if the story isn’t great, it’s always a joy to see two legendary stars on the big-screen.
Here’s my thoughts on “Ocean’s 11”:
